We have been on an instagram hiatus for the last few months because most of our time has been taken up by this precious little person who arrived in February. He has become the youngest five8ths customer yet, complete with a very cute measurement ses The contrasting brown button at the neck is a small style detail from this recent custom short-sleeve shirt. We keep white, black, and brown corozo buttons in stock, in multiple sizes and shapes. While corozo buttons are more expensive and harder to This fuscia (magenta?) fabric is made by Woodin in West Africa. I got it because it's one of those colors that some clients love but that is hard to find. The Italian and Japanese mills that we source from rarely have such bold colors. As you can see This client asked for his initials to be embroidered in his own handwriting. We also found a thread color that matched the buttons almost perfectly. It's not easy to sew in someone else's handwriting, but we think we got it pretty close! This shirt is made from a beautiful orange linen from @canclini1925. The fabric has a very relaxed drape, giving the shirt an almost boldly casual feel. To enhance this casual stylishness we chose bold 1970s style design details, such as the big poin This is the eighth post in our series about the #shirtmakingtools that we use in our work.

The sleeve board and the tailor's ham are tools for pressing. They are used during the sewing process, to press seams as they are being sewn, as well as once The fabric for this shirt is made by @libertylondon. The client's daughter brought it back for her as a present after a trip to the UK. We would normally use such a bold print for a short sleeve shirt, or perhaps a dress, but the client decided on a We have a beautiful new poster in our window that explains our custom process and highlights some of the important features of our work. @papersnapstudio helped with the design and made the illustrations. They also designed the various fonts, which a This short sleeve summer shirt has a number of fun details. There is a colorful side-seam placket embroidered with the client's initials, buttons on the notched sleeve, and a contrasting tag perfect for hanging it on a hook by the pool! Happy New Year from the five8ths team! We started back to work on the 7th of January and we've been hard at work. The first shirts of 2019 have already been delivered! Happy holidays from the five8ths team, and thank you for helping us have a wonderful year! We will be closed from Sunday the 23rd of December and we will re-open again on Monday the 7th of January. We'll see you in 2019! Custom clothes allow a person complete control over their own personal style. We made two pussycat-bow shirts for this client a few months ago. She liked them so much that she ordered three more in a variety of fabrics. We love the fact that this loo One of the skills that shirtmakers take pride in is matching the patterns between two pieces of fabric on a garment. Pattern matching takes thought, planning, and skill, both when cutting and when sewing. Different kinds of patterns present different This is a perfect summer holiday shirt. The fabric is a lightweight seersucker weave made by @canclini1925. We happened to have a piece of the same fabric in a contrasting color on hand, which we used as an accent on the side seam placket. It's ready We celebrated Mpumi's first anniversary with five8ths this week. To celebrate the occasion, she wore her custom white Oxford five8ths shirt that she sewed as part of her training. Mpumi joined us in 2017 after completing her studies in Fashion Design This is another unique custom piece that we recently finished. This client was inspired by a kaftan we had made for someone else. She liked the deep side slits with a self-faced hem; however, she wanted a more jacket-like feel with a banded collar, l This is a shirt we made for a client two years ago. Recently she tripped on the pavement and scraped a hole in her sleeve. We had run out of this fabric a long time ago, so we could not replace the sleeve, but we found enough of it in our scrap box t This shirt has been on the mannequin for a week waiting for its owner to come collect it, and it has attracted a lot of attention. I think the vibrant blue color of the linen paired with the soft brown of the corozo buttons catches the eye. It makes We're one of the few places in Johannesburg where you can buy self-tie bow ties. Our bow ties are the classic "thistle" shape. We make two different bow sizes, which accommodate different face shapes. (For a classic look the width of the bo This client wanted a shirt that opened in the back. There were a few issues we had to think about in the construction of a "backwards" shirt. The yoke (the section that goes across the shoulders) had to open in the center, which means the s
