Elizabeth Kading started five8ths in 2010, with the goal of making high quality, long-lasting clothing that fits well. She aimed to produce the type of clothes that she desired, but which were hard to find-- well-made pieces, constructed from high quality materials, and customizable to suit the personality of the wearer.
She has a background in costume design for theatre, and holds a degree in fine art. She draws on these skills when designing, drafting, and constructing five8ths clothing. She thinks of each piece as a sculpture which must fit and flatter the body. Over the years, she has refined her drafting and sewing techniques and continues to perfect the process and techniques which are a trademark of five8ths shirts and accessories.
