Seamstress Required

five8ths is a small shirt making company located at 44 Stanley, and we are seeking a skilled seamstress or seamster to assist with the production of men's and women's tailored shirts. Must have an excellent hand with a domestic sewing machine, and be able to perform each of the tasks required to sew tailored shirts.

Duties will include:

Construction of tailored shirts, using classic techniques and materials
Finishing, including hand-sewing of buttons and sewing buttonholes using a domestic machine
Shop management, including cleaning
Depending on skills and abilities, other duties may include:
- Cutting and preparing of fabric
- Cutting and sewing of accessories (neckties, bowties, pocket squares)

Qualities of the Applicant:

Must have sewing experience and good knowledge of construction techniques

Excellent communication skills
Attentive to detail and maintaining order
Customer Service oriented
Genuine interest in “slow fashion”, art, or sewing
Confident, mature, responsible, open
Ability to concentrate and focus for extended periods of time
Sewing skills including hand-sewing and domestic machine sewing
Weekend work may be required, depending on the applicant
Must have a valid South African ID or work permit

Renumeration:

Competitive base salary, negotiable (depending on range of skills and experience level), with the possibility of earning bonuses based on sales and production
